HKU HOSTS THE WORLD'S LARGEST GAME DEVELOPMENT MARATHON

Hasan Kalyoncu University (HKU) Zeugma Game Technologies and Gamification Center (ZOOM) has made an extraordinary event. “Global Game Jam” (GGJ), which started at the same time all over the world, was held for the first time this year with the collaboration of seven universities, hosted by HKU.
THE THEME OF GGJ HAS BEEN “REPAIR” THIS YEAR
Thousands of games are developed every year with Global Game Jam, the world's largest and most comprehensive game development marathon. In Turkey, HKU, home to the Gaziantep part of GGJ, which took place in Gaziantep after Istanbul, Ankara and İzmir, HKU aims to pave the way for technology productivity in the gaming industry. The theme of GGJ, which has been hosted by Gaziantep Hasan Kalyoncu University since 2018, was “Repair” this time. Game developers came together and developed various games according to the theme determined.
80 PEOPLE, 16 TEAMS, 12 GAMES
Global Game Jam, which is open to participants from different fields and all levels of experience with different specializations, from professional game developers to educators, artists to game designers, first started with The “Game Art Panel”. 12 games were produced by 16 teams of 80 people in the event, which was organized with the accompaniment of expert mentors, where creativity, solidarity and cooperation came to the fore. In the event, participants learned how to develop their competencies in a hands-on display of several games that professional people have done and used in their work lives.
Game developers made presentations of games produced at the end of a sleepless 48 hours. Prof. Dr. Edibe Sözen said the number of participants this year was intense and 12 games were produced at the end of the event. Congratulating the game developers one by one, Sözen took a collective photo with all the participants at the end of the program.
